The title of this disc is a little misleading; I (naively) assumed I might be hearing some unearthed music composed by Sainte-Colombe’s daughters. In fact, this release replicates private concerts given by the French Baroque violist and his progeny, so there’s also music by Louis Couperin, the fabulously named Jacques Champion de Chambonnières, and Robert de Visée, although the focus remains on Saint-Colombe.

The release opens with the Concert XLI “Le retour”, perhaps one of Sainte-Colombe’s more familiar works thanks to its inclusion in the 1991 film Tous les Matins du Monde about Sainte-Colombe’s more famous student, Marin Marais.
