Australia’s finest young musicians will rekindle their relationship with revered British conductor, Sir Mark Elder, who is set to return in July to conduct the Australian Youth Orchestra (AYO) in his only Australian engagement of 2015.

Under the baton of Maestro Elder, 109 of Australia’s best young musicians, aged between 12 and 30, will perform Mahler’s Symphony No.6 and Debussy’s popular tone poem La Mer in concerts in Melbourne and Sydney.

This latest engagement with the AYO builds upon the success of Maestro Elder’s international tour with the orchestra in 2010. His extensive career in music, spanning, some four decades, makes him one of the most important figures in the British musical establishment. Among his many accolades Elder can boast three Grammy nominations and a knighthood. He is currently the music director of the Hall Orchestra, principal artist of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and artistic director of Opera Rara.
