At this year’s Adelaide International Guitar Festival, Australian soprano Siobhan Stagg joins guitarist Geoffrey Morris in an exploration of rarely performed works for guitar and voice. The program includes baroque songs and early 19th-Century lieder from composers including José Marin, Vicente Martín y Soler and Federico Moretti. Guitar solos by Santiago de Murcia and Fernando Sor will also be interspersed throughout the program.

“These composers are not so well known but the quality of much of this rarely performed repertoire is incredibly high,” Morris told Limelight. “Many of the works on the program are currently getting their first real attention since their own period, but I’m confident will continue to become better known.”

To select the eclectic program, the duo worked collaboratively through various song cycles and individual compositions.

“Geoffrey is a human encyclopaedia of knowledge in this repertoire!” Stagg told Limelight. “He always had a great instinct for what would work well for guitar and voice.”

Morris’s expertise in vocal and guitar repertoire is reflected in his past collaboration with a number of renowned singers, including Sally-Anne Russell, Jane Edwards and Tyrone Landau.
