Portuguese-American pianist Domingos-Antonio Gomes smashed the record for most piano key hits in one minute.

Portuguese-American pianist Domingos-Antonio Gomes has broken the Guinness World Record for most piano key hits in one minute, delivering an impressive 824 key strikes in 60 seconds. The previous record was held by Hungarian pianist Bence Peter, who achieved 765 strikes.

According to the Guiness World Records video that captures the feat – performed on March 4 this year in a music store in Lisbon – the piano used must be a standard grand, baby grand or upright and must not include any kind of mechanical modification or assistance.

Gomes used a Yamaha CFX concert grand piano, striking a high B – the second highest note on the piano – with alternating fingers.

“I am I Portuguese-American professional pianist and have been playing since the age of seven,” he told Guinness World Records in his application. “I broke this record in order to gain visibility in the international world of music by demonstrating my athletic prowess on the piano.”

Gomes’ piano pyrotechnics are not limited to two fingers, however, as he demonstrates in this rendition of Chopin’s Revolutionary Etude (Op. 10 No 12).
