To celebrate its 175th performance of Aida, Opera Australia is offering 175 super cheap seats at Coolangatta Beach.

Verdi’s blockbuster of an opera Aida has long been an audience favourite, routinely programmed by opera houses around the world and included in lists of most frequently performed operas season by season. And with a love triangle, warring nations, and some of opera’s best tunes, it’s not hard to see why.

Now, Opera Australia is about to open a new production of the opera on the Gold Coast as this year’s Griffith Opera on the Beach. The performance on Saturday September 23 will be the 175th performance that the company has staged of Verdi’s Aida. To celebrate the milestone, OA is offering 175 tickets for the special price of $17.50 each for that particular performance.

Directed by Hugh Halliday, audiences are in for a show befitting this grandest of operas. Coolangatta will be transformed into an Egyptian shoreline, complete with fireworks and live camels.

Soprano Natalie Aroyan will be making her debut as the Egyptian princess (she reprises the role of Aida for OA in its 2018 mainstage season). Arnold Rawls plays her lover Radamés, a role he has previouslu performed for OA in the 2015 Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour Aida, with Michael Honeyman as her father Amonasro, and Milijana Nikolic as the jealous princess Amneris. They will be supported by the Opera Australia Community Chorus, comprised of more than 50 Southeast Queensland residents.

Opera Australia are putting 175 B/C Reserve tickets on sale for the September 23 performance of Aida for $17.50 each. Tickets go on sale via the QTIX website at 9:30am on September 13. Maxium two per person, until sold out.
