Muriel Heslop is set to leave Porpoise Spit and head for Sydney once again with news that Muriel’s Wedding The Musical will return to Sydney in July 2019 for a season at the Lyric Theatre.

The show, featuring music by Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall, a book by PJ Hogan (based on his iconic 1994 film) and directed by Simon Phillips, has been a runaway hit for Sydney Theatre Company and Global Creatures. Since premiering at the Roslyn Packer Theatre in November, it has enjoyed a sold out season with standing ovations at almost every performance. Reviews have been just as enthusiastic, with Limelight giving it five stars. Meanwhile, the cast recording released by Sony Music last week has debuted on the national ARIA chart at number 17 and on the Digital Chart at number six.

The musical also has a a record-breaking 12 nominations at the 2017 Sydney Theatre Awards to be announced tonight, including nods for Best Musical and Best Original Score.
