The classical-crossover artist Katherine Jenkins has today announced that she is to tour Australia in November. The Welsh mezzo-soprano, who shot to fame when she sang at Westminster Abbey in 2003 to honour Pope John Paul II’s silver jubilee, last performed in Australia in 2011 when she accompanied Plácido Domingo on his arena tour.

“I’m extremely excited that I’m finally returning to Australia and that I’ll get to see more of your beautiful country,” said Jenkins. “My father was stationed in Australia when he was in the Navy so visiting the country has always held special memories for me.”
On her forthcoming tour Australian audiences will have the chance to see the mezzo perform some of her hit songs, including Time to Say Goodbye, Jealous of The Angels and Blinded by Your Grace, accompanied by piano and string quartet.
Jenkins, who is famous for singing a variety of opera arias, popular songs, music theatre numbers and hymns, is Britain’s best-selling classical artist of the past 25 years. A graduate from the Royal Academy of Music, her debut album Premiere topped the classical charts for eight weeks running in 2004. In recent years, her public profile has increased with appearances on television series such as Emmerdale, Dancing with the Stars, and The X Factor. She was awarded an OBE for services to music and charity in 2013.
“It was such an honour to perform at the Sydney Opera House on my previous trip; I’m looking forward to performing in new and wonderful places, as well as showcasing some of my newer material for Australian audiences,” Jenkins added.
Tickets for Katherine Jenkins’ Australian tour will go on sale on Wednesday, May 8 at 10AM
She performs in Perth, November 4; Melbourne, November 6; Adelaide, November 7; Sydney, November 9 and Brisbane, November 10
