The Hollywood actor will return to Australia to star in Simon Phillips’ take on the Scottish Play in June.

Australian actor Jai Courtney will return to Australia in May next year to begin rehearsals for Melbourne Theatre Company’s production of Macbeth. Following their season launch in August, MTC has announced that Courtney – who has appeared in films such as Jack Reacher, A Good Day to Die Hard, Suicide Squad and the Divergent series – will play the Scottish King in a new production directed by former MTC Artistic Director Simon Phillips.

“It’s an honour to be asked back to the stage for MTC’s 2017 production of Macbeth,” said Courtney. “It’s been some time since I had the chance to revisit my roots in the theatre but being a long-time admirer of Simon’s work, I jumped at the opportunity. I think given the current climate of fear in the world, there’s never been a better time to mount this twisted piece and I’m so thrilled to get the chance to come home and play.”
