As announced in December, acclaimed Australian pianists Lisa Moore and Sonya Lifschitz are coming together to play Bach’s Goldberg Variations on two pianos in June. As part of the Accompanists’ Guild of South Australia Festival, they form the centrepiece of a five-day celebration of piano music. Moore and Lifschitz will also be performing a new South Australian work for two pianos by an as yet unannounced composer, alongside Martin Bresnick’s Handwork and John Adams’ Hallelujah Junction.

Other highlights of the Festival include a performance by 32 South Australian pianists, aged from eight to 80. Under conductor Leonie Hempton, they will play works by Bach, Kats-Chernin, Stravinsky, Wagner, Terry Riley and a new work by South Australian composer Jesse Budel.

Other events include a one-hour lunchtime concert featuring the Guild’s Primary School Ensemble Musicians, a conference featuring masterclasses run by Moore and Lifschitz, and a concert by the Young Accompanists’ Showcase students.

The Accompanists’ Guild of SA Festival runs from June 13 – 17
