As revealed in the Berlin State Opera’s 2018/19 season announcement on March 15, Daniel Barenboim and his orchestra the Staatskapelle Berlin will undertake a concert tour later this year, with Sydney one of the destinations. Among other works yet to be announced, the orchestra will perform the four Brahms symphonies, one of its specialities. This will be the first time Barenboim has brought the Staatskapelle to Australia.

Although it is likely that the Staatskapelle will perform at the Sydney Opera House, the venue has declined to comment at this time and has asked those interested in its classical music program to subscribe to its newsletter to receive information about upcoming events.

Barenboim has been Music Director of the Staatskapelle since 1992, and is one of the world’s most distinguished conductors and pianists. He last played in Australia in 1970, alongside his then-wife cellist Jacqueline du Pré.
