Acclaimed composer and musician Catherine (Cat) Hope is appointed Head of the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music.

Leading composer and musician Catherine (Cat) Hope has been appointed as Professor and Head of the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music at Monash University in Melbourne.

An accomplished composer, sound artist and musician, Professor Hope has toured with her work throughout Australia and internationally, and is the artistic director of the award-winning new music ensemble Decibel. A noise, installation and performance artist, she is known for her conceptually driven music, which uses mostly graphic scores, acoustic/electronic combinations and new score reading technologies. Her compositions range from works for laptop duet to orchestra, with a focus on chamber works.

Professor Hope is currently based at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in Perth, where she lectures in classical music and music technology. She begins her new role at Monash in January next year and said she was “thrilled to be leading the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music at Monash toward an exciting and dynamic future.”
