David Lewis will face court in Sydney on December 5 charged with historic child sex offences. As reported in today’s Sydney Morning Herald (read the story here) the tenor has been charged with four counts of aggravated indecent assault of a victim under the age of 16 and two counts of sexual intercourse with a person 14 or over and under 16.

Lewis (aged 58) has been a member of the Opera Australia chorus for the past 25 years. His most recent appearance for OA was in Two Weddings, One Bride at the Sydney Opera House earlier this year. He also played the Emperor in OA’s Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour production of Turandot in March last year.

The offences are alleged to have been committed at the Sydney Opera House in the mid 1990s. The alleged victim claims that she was assaulted when she was 14 and performing in the children’s choir of an OA production.
