In its mission to further expand the canon of works available to wind instrumentalists, Arcadia Winds is once again putting the call out for original music written for wind quintet. Its newly revamped Composition Prize is now open to composers aged 18 to 35, and boasts an increased cash prize of $2000. Previously, the competition was restricted to applicants aged 18 to 30, with the winner receiving $1500.

Applicants are required to submit a proposal outlining their approach to composing for wind quintet, as well as a portfolio of two previously written works that demonstrates an ability to compose for wind instruments, and/or within a chamber music context. The winning entrant will then be commissioned by Arcadia Winds to write a 6-10 minute work for Wind Quintet.

In addition to the $2000 cash prize, the winner will receive a suite of performance and career opportunities. In the hope that restrictions associated with COVID-19 will have eased by October, the winner will be provided flights to and from Melbourne for a workshop with Arcadia Winds on October 5.
