The award-winning London-based Australian pianist will record three albums for ABC Classics.

One of Australia’s brightest young musicians, London-based pianist Jayson Gillham, has signed a major three-album recording deal with ABC Classics. In recent years Gillham has established an impressive international career that has included concerto engagements with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Hallé Orchestra and the English Chamber Orchestra as well as appearances in Australia with the Melbourne and Queensland Symphony Orchestras.

After following the meteoric success of the brilliant 27-year-old pianist over the past decade, Toby Chadd, Manager of ABC Classics, spoke of his delight at establishing such a substantial ongoing relationship with Gillham. “ABC Classics has been following Jayson’s career with keen interest since, as a 16-year-old, he performed a Beethoven concerto as part of an ABC masterclass. His prodigious talent was immediately obvious, and he has blossomed as a musician since then,” Chadd said. “His playing is already astonishingly mature and elegant, and the beauty of sound he coaxes from the piano is a rare treat.”

Gillham’s first disc, which he describes as representing “everything I stand for as a musician – beauty, vitality and joy,” will feature a collection of solo piano works by J.S. Bach, Schubert and Chopin. Speaking of the newly announced partnership with ABC Classics Gillham said, “They have sought and listened to my artistic input every step of the way, which is refreshing and empowering.” Gillham will record his debut disc this June in the famed acoustics of the Concert Hall Church in the German town of Neumarkt. Andreas Neubronner, whose numerous recordings include Murray Perahia’s solo albums, will produce and engineer. Speaking of his choice of repertoire for the disc, Gillham said, “These are pieces I have grown up with over many years and are cherished favourites. Beauty of tone is of vital importance in helping the music come to life and so I am absolutely thrilled to be recording with renowned Tonmeister Andreas Neubronner, who has produced numerous stunning solo piano recordings.” The disc will be released globally in 2016/17.
