The American soprano joins Lang Lang, Alfie Boe and… Kylie Minogue in concert at Buckingham Palace.
First she sang at President Obama’s inauguration; now American soprano Renée Fleming has been confirmed to appear at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace on June 4. Limelightcan’t help but wonder: why not an English soprano – say, Kate Royal?
Fleming, Alfie Boe and Lang Lang make up the classical contingent at the televised concert; other stars engaged for the festivities include Kylie Minogue, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Shirley Bassey and Stevie Wonder.
Her Majesty will be spoilt for good music on her Diamond Jubilee weekend, which marks the 60th anniversary of her ascension to the throne. The day before she hears Fleming sing as part of this smorgasbord, the Queen will take part in another grand spectacle in her honour as the Handel Water Musicexperience is recreated on a 1,000-boat flotilla travelling down the River Thames. She will hear the new Water Music, commissioned from 10 leading British composers, from her unique vantage point in the royal barge at the centre of the waterborne pageant.
