Boat ferrying singers to the floating stage at the Bregenz Festival capsizes depositing three singers into the lake.

A performance of the Magic Flute in Bregenz had to be halted after a boat carrying the Queen of the Night, Monostatos, Sarastro and a stunt double for Pamina to the floating stage overturned dunking all hands into the water.

The singers were all unharmed and went on with the show after half an hour’s hiatus but it was clearly a traumatic experience for Kathryn Lewek playing the Queen of the Night. The unfortunate soprano tweeted: “It was definitely one of the most terrifying moments of my life…We are all glad it didn’t end worse!!”

The other singers involved were veteran tenor Martin Koch playing Monoastatos, bass Alfred Reiter playing Sarastro, Utta Jott who was playing Pamina’s stunt double and a technician.

Piecing events together from twitter reports it appears that the situation was pretty hair-raising and there were a couple of acts of bravery involved. “Actually COULDN’T swim with three skirts, two layers if bodice, two mic units and a heavy horned helmet on!!” exclaimed Lewek, adding, “My wet costume kept dragging me down.
