Australian Chamber Choir: Fauré Requiem

18 April @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm AEST

Fauré’s Requiem, composed ‘for the pleasure of it’, is imbued with warmth and optimism. The Australian Chamber Choir renowned for its performances in the Romantic style shares with the audience the purity of the celebrated Pie Jesu soprano solo and the memorable In Paradisum, with its magical harp accompaniment. Enjoy the freshness of Faure’s original chamber instrumentation.

Renowned for his imaginative programming, Artistic Director, Douglas Lawrence combines this unconventional Requiem with a striking work for choir and solo cello by Sir John Tavener (1944–2013). Fauré’s instrumentation sounds all the more luscious after the austerity of Tavener’s Svyati (1995) for choir and solo cello.

In January 2020, the Australian Chamber Choir won accolades for its True Romantics program, music primarily from the Romantic era, performed in Melbourne, Sydney and regional Victoria.

‘this extraordinary concert … was breathtakingly moving. There were tears …’ Melbourne Review, 4 July 2018.
‘one of the finest concerts in Sydney this year’ ClassikON, 25 September 2018

‘the ensemble delivered elegant lines that spun into eternity, whispered phrases that built to anguished cries and fully realised the power, glory and reverence of the music.’ SoundsLike Sydney, 16 September 2018
