For the first time, London’s Royal Academy of Music is holding auditions in Sydney on October 14 and 15.

For the first time, the Royal Academy of Music in London is holding auditions in Sydney. Every year, the Academy recruits the most talented musicians from around the world, with its student community representing more than 50 nationalities. Previously, Australian applicants have had to travel to attend auditions in London or New York.

The Academy’s Deputy Principal and Dean, Mark Racz, said: “We are delighted to be holding these auditions in Sydney and look forward to meeting some of the hugely talented musicians Australia has to offer. We’re very proud of the fact that our students come from such a diverse range of countries, and opening new audition centres will support and develop that diversity in the future.”

In addition to being rated top UK conservatoire in the 2018 Good University Guide and Guardian University Guidethe Academy has also recently achieved the highest score among conservatoires for overall satisfaction in the National Student Survey.

Based in the heart of London, the Academy has some of the finest principal study teachers in the world and an unrivalled roster of visiting professors, including John Adams, John Williams, Stephen Hough, James Ehnes, Colin Carr and Simon Keenleyside.  Regular visiting conductors include Sir Mark Elder, Edward Gardner, Semyon Bychkov, Trevor Pinnock, Christian Thielemann and Oliver Knussen.

Mark Racz said: “London is a wonderful place to study music, and the Academy is right in the centre of all the cultural, artistic and social activities it has to offer. This really is an ideal place to embark on a successful career as a musician.”

Auditions will be held in Sydney on 14 and 15 October 2017 and the deadline for applications is Wednesday 11 October.
