In a coup for the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, acclaimed virtuoso violinist Shlomo Mintz is to become the first soloist-in-residence in Australia, a move that follows the lead of other world orchestras and is designed to put the QSO firmly on the global stage. “I am excited to be coming back to Brisbane to work with the QSO,” says Mintz. “Queensland has a great Orchestra and I’m looking forward to spending time performing, collaborating and sharing. I consider it an honour to be the first Soloist-in-Residence in the QSO’s history, and indeed, as the first in Australia.”

Mintz first picked up the violin at the tender age of three-and-a-half, debuting at 11-years-old with the Israel Philharmonic. After graduating from the Juilliard School of Music in New York, Mintz was soon touring on the international circuit with conductors such as Carlo-Maria Guilini, Antal Doráti and Eugene Ormandy.

The popular violinist has already won over Queensland audiences, having shone as soloist in the Beethoven concerto in February of this year. The QSO’s sold-out opening Maestro Concert saw Simone Young conducting.
