Musical Theatre star and Hollywood actor has died suddenly during rehearsals in London.

British actor and musical theatre performer Khan Bonfils has died during a rehearsal in London. Bonfis, who played the King of Siam opposite Elaine Paige in the West End’s Theatre Royal London production of the King and I in 2000, collapsed during rehearsals for the Craft Theatre Company’s production of Dante’s Inferno at London’s Rag Factory on Tuesday. Despite efforts by fellow cast members and paramedics to resuscitate him he was pronounced dead a short time after, he was 42 years old. The cause of death is yet to be determined.

A spokesperson for the Craft Theatre Company confirmed the actor’s tragic death during the final rehearsals for Inferno, which was due to open today. “The entire company are in shock. There is absolute sadness, it is a real tragedy,” said spokesperson Chris Hislop. “I think they are holding it together by talking it through and by being there for each other.”

The company have postponed the opening of the production, but hope to be able to go forward with the show by the weekend.

Bonfils began his career as a model and martial arts expert before becoming an actor. In addition to theatre appearances, Bonfils has also appeared in several blockbuster films in supporting roles, including the Star Wars prequels, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, two James Bond movies, Tomorrow Never Dies and Skyfall, and Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins
