She has been described as 'Australia’s rising star of jazz and blues' by Fine Music 102.5 FM and now The Basement welcomes back singer and piano player Frances Madden with her band for what is sure to be another sell-out show.
It has been a busy time for Frances. In the past year she has supported the legendary Dionne Warwick and also Grammy Award-winner Gregory Porter in their Sydney concerts, headlined at the JZ Club in Shanghai and also attracted a crowd of around 1,500 people when she and the band played at Manly Jazz Festival. Sydney radio station Fine Music 102.5 FM announced Frances as their Stefan Kruger Award winner for 2017. This show at The Basement is the first of eight in an East Cost tour that takes in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart and finishes at the Wangaratta Jazz Festival.
Frances captivates her audiences with a combination of her genuinely warm stage presence along with a voice and style that are uniquely her own. She is a talented songwriter so when she performs her own swinging tunes and beautiful ballads, they merge seamlessly with the timeless classics she covers. As James Morrison put it:
Frances has a wonderful feeling for jazz and blues standards but what makes her a real stand-out are her original songs and unique style.
Alongside Frances on vocals and piano, the line-up for the show includes some of Sydney’s most talented jazz musicians. Frances says “We’ll be doing our Jazz, Blues & Classics show which includes some of my originals alongside our unique take on some timeless tunes. There will be a few new tunes, a variety of tempos and arrangements, and opportunity to hear some great improvisation from the band.”
Early booking is highly recommended as each of Frances’ previous shows at The Basement have sold out. Dinner & Show as well as General Admission options available.
