The Song Company in collaboration with Ironwood Chamber Ensemble present Johann Sebastian Bach's Mass in B Minor.
From Oct 23
In a rare soloistic performance, the singers of The Song Company and Ironwood Chamber Ensemble combine to present Johann Sebastian Bach’s magnificent Mass in B Minor featuring one voice per part vocal scoring. It took a Lutheran composer to write the most expansive and profound setting of the Latin Mass ever conceived. Initiated in 1733 in order to obtain the title ‘Electoral Saxon Court Composer’ from the Catholic sovereign Augustus III, the full mass was only completed towards the end of Bach’s life. Widely regarded as one of the supreme achievements of classical music, this monumental work combines Bach’s stylistic and technical brilliance.

Amanda Cole, Mezzo Soprano and Janet Brewer, Piano and Harpsichord with guest, Andrew Paszkowski, Viola. A rapturous and dynamic evening of music from the 12th century to the 20th. Amanda Cole (mezzo-soprano) and Janet Brewer (piano & harpsichord) take you on a journey through the wonders of German song, from the plainsong of Hildegard von Bingen to the seductive allure of Kurt Weill. This enchanting program will explore the music of many of our favourite composers, as well as the Lieder of some of those less well known, such as Clara Schumann, Albert, Prince Consort (Queen Victoria’s husband), and Henry Handel Richardson–famed Australian author of The Getting of Wisdom. Andrew Paszkowski (viola) joins the duo for Brahms’s captivating masterwork, Op.91, two songs for piano, viola and contralto. Cole is known for her innovative programming and for including a surprise element to her song recitals. Be prepared for an unorthodox experience of classical music.
